What's New: Coffee Talk, New Wines Coming In, and Upcoming Tastings

Greetings Wine Lovers!

We hope you're ready for another round of our monthly newsletter, where we bring you the latest news, recommendations, and some good old-fashioned wine humor.

First up, we have some exciting news: We're absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with our awesome pals, Henry and Martha, the masterminds behind Blonde Bastard Coffee! These guys are all about bringing you the most delectable, sustainably sourced coffee beans out there, while also supporting the hard-working farmers who grow them. They've got a knack for roasting up small batches of pure deliciousness, and they only work with cooperatives that pay their farmers and harvesters a fair wage. At Blonde Bastard, they're all about spreading good vibes one cup at a time, and we're all for it. So, if you want to get your caffeine fix from the coolest cats in town, look no further!

We are currently offering two of their delicious roasts in our store, the Colombian Narino ($17.50/12oz. bag) and the Guatemalan La Morena Cubulco ($16.50/12oz. bag). The Narino is sourced from a small Colombian department, located above the equator and renowned for its high-altitude coffee farms that allow for slow maturation. The result is a rich and complex brew, bursting with notes of black cherry, blackberry, caramel, grape, and tropical fruit. On the other hand, the La Morena Cubulco is named after "azucar morena" or brown sugar in Spanish, with the dominant flavors coming from a new micro-lot of coffee harvested by female coffee farmers. This particular roast boasts hints of dark chocolate, cane sugar, and citrus - truly a delight for your taste buds! So why not give these two fantastic roasts a try and experience the exceptional quality and taste of Blonde Bastard Coffee?

Now, on to what's new this upcoming week...

Finca Adalgisa Malbec 2015 - $45

Brendel Chorus Cuvee Blanc 2020 - $30

If you're looking for a bold and flavorful wine, we highly recommend trying a Malbec from Argentina. I'm in love with Finca Adalgisa's Malbec from Lujan de Cuyo. With its rich, deep color and notes of blackberry and spice, it's the perfect wine to pair with a hearty meal or to sip on its own. The Furlotti family has been farming their three-hectare vineyard in Chacras de Coria (Lujan), Mendoza for three generations. Planted exclusively with Malbec grapes in 1916, this micro-winery produces a single wine made by the renowned winemaker Carmello Patti. With a focus on balance and terroir, this wine is highly sought-after despite the winery's small production. In fact, it's considered the smallest winery in Argentina, producing less than 500 cases annually, of which only fifty are available for export to the US.

If you're more in the mood for something light and refreshing, you can't go wrong with a lovely white blend from Brendel. The Chorus Cuvee Blanc is composed of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malvasia Bianca, and Fernao Peres. Inspired by the white wines of Northern Italy, with its bright acidity and flavors of citrus and green apple, it's the perfect wine to enjoy on a warm spring day. Brendel Wines, part of the Lawrence Wine Estates group, produced their inaugural vintage in 2019. The group, owned by proprietor Gaylon Lawrence, boasts several renowned Napa Valley wineries, including Burgess Cellars, Heitz Cellar, Ink Grade Estate, and Stony Hill Vineyard, among others. The winery is named after Leon Brendel, a French-born winegrower from Alsace who served as the wine chemist for Mexico's president Francisco I. Madero in the early 20th century. After 15 years in Mexico, Brendel moved to Napa Valley in 1930 and became the founding winemaker and chemist at Freemark Abbey in 1940. He worked there through the 1950s and was widely recognized as one of Napa Valley's most esteemed winemakers. This wine will delight your senses!

And finally, we can't leave you without a little wine humor. So, here's a joke to share at your next wine tasting:

What’s the secret to enjoying a good bottle of wine? Open the bottle to let it breathe. If it doesn’t look like it’s breathing, give it mouth-to-mouth.

Cheers!
