2014 Anthill Farms Peugh Vineyard Chardonnay - $48/BTL!

Anthill Farms got its start when Webster Marquez, Anthony Filiberti, and David Low crossed paths while working at Williams-Selyem in 2003. After a few years as cellar rats in California, Oregon, and Virginia, they started Anthill Farms in 2004, making eight-and-a-half barrels of wine in their first year. Today, they make eight single-vineyard Pinots and two appellation wines every year; depending on the vintage, they may also produce two or three Syrahs and a Chardonnay. Their terroir-driven wines have received wide critical acclaim and, as such, outside of their mailing list, only a small amount of wine is released every year to top echelon restaurants and wine shops. The 2014 Anthill Farms Peugh Vineyard Chardonnay hails from Russian River Valley, on the plains that make up the northwestern outskirts of Santa Rosa. These vines were planted in the early 1940s and make them one of the oldest producing Chardonnay in the state. Asian pear skin, lanolin, and sweetgrass. With air and a little warmth, notes of pungent gooseberry and white pepper emerge, tempered by soft, talcum-like sweetness. The palate opens to reveal waves of cool lemon blossom, wet slate, and a core of precise refreshing acidity.

2018 Y. Rousseau Son of a Butcher Red Blend @ $23/BTL!

One of our favorites is back in stock at The Vine Post and we wanted to share it with you. Y Rousseau Wines is owned by Yannick and Susan Rousseau. Yannick was born in Southwest France in a small town bordering Spain. Yannick remembers trying his grandfather’s home made wine at the age of 5. His father was a butcher. Yannick became interested in how wine was made and so in 1998, he earned a Master’s degree in Enology and Viticulture from the University of Paul Sabatier in Toulouse and worked for several years in the local wine industry. He then became interested in adding some international wine work to his resume. He immigrated to the United States in 1999 and got his first job at Newton Vineyards in Napa Valley. After Newton, he spent 6 years with Chateau Potelle (Mount Veeder). The Son of a Butcher is a California Red every day drinking wine. On the back label, it states that this wine is a blend of 90% elbow grease and 10% je ne sais quois. In reality, the blend is 45% Tannat, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Spent 18 months aging in French oak barrels (15% new, the remainder neutral). We often associate tannins with Tannat but this is supple and smooth. Aromas of ripe fruit including blackberry and plum, with spicy characteristics, cedar and dried elderberry. Long finish that lingers with both dark fruits and tobacco smoke.
