Charles Sparr, 25, represents the 12th generation of his family working the vines in Riquewhir. Although his father Pierre travelled the world to promote the dry wines of Domaine Pierre Sparr, Charles says that he has more of an affinity for them. Since 2010 he has been trying to vinify drier but, like his peers, the aim is to express the terroir.

Devaux Champagne, founded in 1846 by brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux. The House truly developed under the successive management of three widows of character, Claude-Joseph, Augusta-Maria and Marguerite. However, in 1987, in the absence of a family heir, ownership was passed to a united group of winegrower families, known today as the ‘Groupe Vinicole Champagne Devaux’, giving Devaux total control of its grape supply, quite the rarity in Champagne. The House of Devaux is the flagship of the beautiful Côte des Bar, the largest Pinot Noir region in Champagne.

About

From its foundation in the early nineties to today, the La Fiorita estate has always sought to perfect the taste, longevity and aromatic complexity of its Brunello offerings, which emanate from the magical union of the Sangiovese grape with the unique terroires that surround Montalcino.

This permanent search for excellence drives every choice and action taken to assure the most optimal viticultural and vinification processes. Traditional and modern techniques combine to enhance quality from soil to bottle without compromise or shortcuts with virtually all interventions done by hand.

Since 2011, with the acquisition of the estate by Natalie Oliveros, La Fiorita has embarked on numerous projects of long term importance. Three are of particular note. The first was the 2014 planting of the third Brunello certified, fully organic, vineyard to the south-west area of Montalcino. The second are the steps taken to date to secure organic certification for the other two vineyards and the third is the design and layout of a state-of-the-art winemaking and cellaring facility Construction commenced in early 2018 at the birthplace of the La Fiorita estate and is planned to be ready to host the 2019 harvest thus cementing La Fiorita's exciting future for decades to come. These and other exciting projects will undoubtedly bring La Fiorita to a level of excellence first envisaged by its founders, and now pursued with resolute determination, focus and passion by its proprietor, Natalie Oliveros, for the enjoyment of its growing and loyal consumers worldwide.

The Wines;

2011 La Fiorita Brunello di MontalcinoLa Fiorita has crafted an elegant and feminine wine this vintage. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino opens to delicate tones of wild berry, wet earth and dried rose petal. It delivers these aromas with a soft touch and lasting intensity. These ethereal aromas glide by the senses with smooth transitions. The wine leaves an equally graceful impression in the mouth. This Brunello definitely benefits from a few hours of air before serving, but it can also be served in the near or medium term.

Score: 91 Points Wine Spectator"Sweet cherry flavors are framed by licorice, tobacco and spice notes in this smooth red. Firms up enough on the finish to warrant a year or two of aging, but this should find equilibrium soon. Best from 2017 through 2026."2012 La Fiorita Brunello di MontalcinoThe wine has a ruby red color with a slight garnet hint. The nose expresses fresh and spicy notes with the aroma of red fruit and tobacco. The touch is harmonious silky and coherent with the scent. The finish is fragrant and savory.Score: 92 Points Wine Spectator"Dark flavors of plum and blackberry give this red a modern feel. Spice and tobacco notes chime in. Polished, ending with serious grip. Best from 2020 through 2032. 600 cases made."2013 La Fiorita Brunello di MontalcinoBright red. Fresh, enticing aromas and flavors of strawberry, tea leaf and licorice are lifted by a violet topnote. Polished tannins and a harmonious acid spine provide support and very good cut to the long finish, which features a strong note of graphite. This easygoing, bright, floral wine is the best Brunello from La Fiorita in years.Score: 95 Points Wine Spectator"This is fresh, evoking cherry, floral, black pepper, mineral, earth and tobacco aromas and flavors. The assertive tannins come into play by the long finish, yet this shows balance overall. Best from 2022 through 2037. 400 cases imported."
