Founded by Gary and Rosella Franscioni, ROAR Wines is a small, family operated winery in Monterey County that produces fantastic Pinot Noirs and Syrah from the vineyards of Santa Lucia Highlands. Ed Kurtzman (August Wines) and Adam Lee (Siduri, Novy) are the winemakers that collaborate with ROAR wines from the fruit that is grown from Rosella's Vineyard, Garys' Vineyard, and the Pisoni Vineyard. They co-own these vineyards with the Pisoni family. If you are a fanatic of the region, you will find that this is the quintessential Pinot Noir. These are some of the finest Pinot Noirs produced in the state of California.The 2014 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir opens nicely with a fruited nose, clove, sweet cream, and subtle earthiness. On the palate, you have bright red fruits along with dark cherry, blackberry, and boysenberry. It is has a great long textured finish and as you give it some time to breathe, the aromatics expand into a vanilla and cassis profile. When you want to find a great Pinot Noir either for yourself or for a friend and you want to drop the dollars, this is the one to find.
