Mountford Estate is an internationally-renowned boutique vineyard and winery, known for producing elegant wines of distinction, quality and interest. Originally known for their exquisite Chardonnays, the winery was established in 1991 in the Waipara Valley of New Zealand. Takahiro Koyama, a world-renowned viticulturist and winemaker, joined the team in 2006 and helped to put Mountford on the map by perfecting their Burgundy-style Pinot Noir. After his time at Mountford Estate, Takahiro went on to work in some of the world's most renowned wineries. He spent some time at Weingut Keller in Rheinhessen, Germany, to better understand the purity of Riesling. From there, he joined California trailblazer Jim Clendenen at Au Bon Climat in Santa Maria to hone his skills with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 2017, Takahiro purchased Mountford Estate with the help of Japanese financial backers. This luxurious Pinot is from the oldest vines on the estate and is infused with minerals from the limestone deposits in the hills of Mountford. The 10 hectare vineyard is situated on the Eastern hillside of the Waipara Valley and boasts three single vineyards – The Gradient, The Rise and the Hommage a’ L’Alsace – which all grow on north facing slopes. The team at Mountford Estate place a strong emphasis on attention to detail and use bio-dynamic practices in the vineyard and traditional Burgundian methods in the winery. This wine is at the perfect age for drinking and shows the savory power of fine Waipara fruit. It's a typically broody Mountford style with complex layers of dark fruits and a supple, really attractive finish with a nice line of creamy acidity. This is structured, complex wine with character and class. An irresistible, exclusive bargain. There are only 30 bottles left so please get your bottles today!
