Domaine Rene Cacheux & Fils 2016/2017 Season Allocations (Pre-Arrival)

Small family estate, with a knowledge of winemaking for four generations. Located in the heart of the Vosne-Romanée village in Cote d’Or. At the beginning of the last century, Francois Blée settled in Vosne-Romanée. His son, Charles Blée, succeeded him at the beginning of last century and increased the surface area of the field. In 1966, the estate was divided by his two daughters. Jacqueline Blée, one of his daughters and her husband René Cacheux, created the Cacheux-Blée vineyard. In 2004, after working on other wine farms, their son Gerald became the successor and now manage the René Cacheux & Son Vineyard.

In 2005, the estate acquired vines of the appellation Chambolle Musigny. The grapes are hand harvested, immediately sorted, directly on the vine, the de-stalking is total before setting out of open tank. The wines are vinified in a traditional way then maturing in oak barrels for 18 months with a percentage of new barrels which can vary, according to the appellations and the vintage, between 30% and 70%.

Domaine Rene Cacheux produces some of the finest Burgundies at a fraction of the cost of their neighbors Domaine Romanee Conti, Robert Arnoux, the Gros family, Meo Camuzet, and Lamarche to name a few. Its position among Grand Cru vineyards (it also counts Richebourg as a neighbor) has led many to question why it was passed over during the Grand Cru classifications of 1936.

Their

Les Champs d'Argent

opens up with bright red fruits such as cherry, blackcurrant, and blueberry. The palate has freshness and is well structured. Pronounced tannins that are not aggressive. Elegant, fine, and structured. Perfect with a vegetable salad, grilled red meats, poultry, and cooked cheeses.

The

Chambolle-Musigny

has a floral bouquet of violets along with a red fruit characteristic like raspberries and strawberries. Excellent deep entrance on the palate with richness and complexity. Fine elegant finish.

The wines from the appellation

Vosne-Romanée

portray a fruitiness, elegance, refinement, and complexity. Their wine is a fine young example. It displays beautiful aromatic notes of wild red and black fruits (raspberry, plum, cherry) with fine spices of clove, ginger, oak, and clean minerality. The palate is polished with a silk-like texture. Ample fine tannins, medium bodied, with bright red fruit jam. Long finish with fine spiciness and elegance. This wine is so attractive right now but will get better within 10-15 years aging.

The

Les Suchots

has a youthful color, deep ruby-red, with slight purple rim. Fantastic purity on the nose, displaying a dark fruity characteristic. Blackberry, raspberry, some violet floral notes. There is a clear stony mineral presence with some earthy notes like ginger and licorice root. Really fine hint of oak. Very silky, lovely, delicate palate. It is a youthful wine but there is still a finesse here. Fine spiciness of white pepper, clove, and ginger with ripe wild berries. Very fine oak presence, already smooth, polished, and round. Long finish that lingers. Drink now through 2033.

Les Beaux Monts

has a youthful purple core. A quite intense nose, showing off some mineral notes and some earthy notes. Elegant wild berries, strawberry, and blackberry with a toasted spicy background that has depth. Fine spices of ginger, apricot, and a meat-like characteristic. Slight oak but it is buried under the layers of fruit. On the palate, you have a concentrated medium-bodied frame, with layers of berries, and a discreet amount of wood. This portays an elegance that is long and persistent like its finish. It is a harmonious wine that will develop a lot more complexity over the years to come. Drink now through 2033.
