So imagine for a second that you have no concept of this Burgundy wine other than the label and you open up this bottle and find out that this is one of those sleeper wines, one of those hidden gems that your friends always manage to find. This tastes like a Premier Cru Meursault, but it's only $40+ per bottle. The Chardonnay comes from 50 years old vines in the Auxey-Duresses subregion of Cote de Beaune. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches, then the must is cold-settled for 24 hours. Malolactic fermentation did take place in older Burgundian barrels so this wine is a little more softer and subtle. The Chardonnay is aged one year in barrel, six months in stainless steel tank.Aromas of slight oak, apricot, and orange peel. Mouthfeel has lemon, subtle tropical fruit, saline and acidity. Plus, due to the fact that it is so close to Mersault, you get a slight nutty finish almost like an almond or hazelnut. It is a delicious Chardonnay that is ready to drink today!
